SAME (So All May Eat)

So All May Eat (SAME) creates an interfaith community by addressing nutritional and physical needs with our neighbors who are without homes or are living in poverty so we might together experience the fullness of God’s love and grace.

I Need Help

Free Lunch Program

Every Monday at 11:30 AM

In the fall, winter, and spring, we offer a hot lunch at the church. In the summer months, we offer a sandwich meal. All are welcome to join for lunch, and there is no cost for the meal.

As supplies allow, we also offer toiletries, feminine hygiene products, and other food and household items.

Free Clothing Closet

Every Monday at 11:30 AM

The clothing closet is open during lunch. We stock clothes, shoes, jackets, blankets, gloves, and more for men, women, and children. Availability of items varies. Stop in to see what we might have for you!

Mobile Food Pantry (Grocery Delivery)*

Typically the Fourth Wednesday of the Month

We partner with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to provide about 100 local households with around 50 pounds of groceries. Recipients must signup in advance, and they can pick up their food at the church or have it delivered to them.

*Grocery Delivery for those without transportation or unable to get a ride to pick up their food

Other Services

Mondays at 11:30 AM, Depending on Availability

As we are able, we offer other services that may be helpful to our guests. Examples of previous services on Mondays include voter registration, tax help, COVID vaccine appointments, flu shots, and dental clinics.

SAME is operated almost entirely by volunteers who believe in its mission of welcoming everyone with a good meal. Volunteer opportunities include preparing food, serving Monday lunches, clean-up, sorting clothing donations, setting up and running the Monday clothing closet, and monthly mobile food pantry set up, bag packing, and delivery. Guests are also able to volunteer.

Our clothing closet is run almost entirely on donations of clothing. If you have a donation, they can be dropped off in the church office on Wine Street. SAME secures most food from the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, but there are occasionally needs for food donations.

Sharing a bit from Father Richard Rohr this morning: When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. —Matthew 14:14 The gospel passage is quite good and delightful because it tells us very directly what God is about. Jesus is all about meeting immediate needs, right here and right now. There’s no mention of heaven at all. It seems we’ve missed the point of what the Christian religion should be about, but we see how the disciples themselves missed the point: “Tell them to go to the village and take care of themselves” (Matthew 14:15). But Jesus does not leave people on their own! I love how the disciples show us time and time again, what not to do. Even while being with Jesus, they sometimes didn't get it either. On Mondays, we strive to NOT be like the disciples! ... See MoreSee Less

In the 1960s Hampton Baptist Church started a program offering lunches to those inneed in our community.... well, that simple lunch is now a full Monday morning program called SAME - So All May Eat . It now includes a small pantry where neighbors can choose items to take home. This past Sunday, members did what they have been doing for the past 80 years - they came together to supply food to those in need. Thank you for these great items for our TAKE2 pantry! ... One more from yesterday... too good not to share! We served up 115 lunches today to about 106 people - thankful we had a little bit leftover for seconds! That's well over 200 hot dogs and close to 50lbs of potatoes. Folks may come hungry, but they sure don't leave that way 🥰🥗🌭🌭🥔🥔🥔 ... See MoreSee Less
